  1. Hello Dear,

Thank you for writing to us at MediMetry.
Duodenal atresia is a rare disorder and can be diagnosed on ultrasound by 'double bubble' sign.
After birth baby vomits and is not able to take the feed. In that case feed is given by IV line and baby is to be kept in NICU under supervision and is operated at the earliest. Generally the surgery is successful. You should go for your delivery to a centre where neonatologist is available with good NICU facilities so that baby is well taken care of.
This condition can be associated with excess liquor in pregnancy or preterm labour or Down syndrome etc. which should be monitored and screened antenatally.
Well as you have consulted your doctor and know the status, stay as calm as possible. Wish you good luck.

  2. Hello Dear,

Thank you for writing to us at MediMetry.
Duodenal atresia is a condition in which the first part of the small bowel (the duodenum) has not developed properly. It is not open and cannot allow the passage of stomach contents. Surgery to correct the duodenal blockage is necessary, but is not an emergency. The surgical approach will depend on the nature of the abnormality.  Recovery from the duodenal atresia is expected after treatment. If left untreated, the condition is deadly.
