  1. Thank you for your question.
Influenza known commonly as the flu is a serious viral infection affecting primarily the respiratory system.
It's transmitted via aerosols containing the virus when an infected person coughs or sneezes or spits and also via touching articles infected.
    It's mainly seasonal in occurrence.
Common symptoms include sudden onset of high fever, body ache, headache, tiredness, cough, sore throat, running nose, etc.
    .
Regarding the treatment, usually many times the symptoms subside in a week or two. However in the immunocompromised individuals like those with AIDS, cancer therapy patients, chronic diseases like diabetes, young children and elderly people, etc. as the immunity cannot withstand the virus, the flu can cause further complications, and even pneumonia and death.
    .
You may self treat yourself by staying at home, limiting your contact with other people, getting lots of rest, staying hydrated possibly with warm water, no smoking or alchohol or smoking, treating your fever with OTC paracetamol.
However if you belong to the above group of people or have difficulty breathing or have consistent high fever, altered bowel habits, dark urine, kindly go to the nearest doctor.
  2. Meals that could be considered are hot tea, soups especially broth soup, hot rice water, plain rice, dal and other legumes, lean meat, grilled fish etc.

Food that could be avoided include heavily spicy food, dairy and dairy products, sweets, and fatty food ie oily food and junk food.
    .
Regarding precautions, I would advise to kindly avoid overcrowded places especially during the flu season, keep yourself healthy with regular exercise well nourished with foods rich in Vitamin C, Zinc, Vitamin B complex, citrus foods etc., consider vaccination if belonging in the immunocompromised category, observe personal etiquettes like coughing or sneezing in handkerchiefs and washing hands before touching face or eating.

I hope I have attended to your queries. Do not hesitate to ask me if any further clarifications needed.
