Slight bleeding during pregnancy.

Hello doctor, I’m 10 weeks pregnant and I had slight bleeding in 9th week. Doctor prescribed me progesterone 200 mg tabs twice daily for first five days then once at night for a month and advised rest. I still get light colored tissue while urination. I don’t have any abdominal pain. Will this bleeding during pregnancy ┬áharm my baby? And which is the best sleeping posture?

  1. Hello Dear,

Thank you for writing to us at MediMetry.
If your ultrasound shows that fetus is placed normally with normal heart rate, internal os closed with no funneling with or without evidence of Subchorionic hemorrhage, continue same treatment and take rest. Avoid sexual intercourse and constipation.
If ultrasound has abnormal findings as open os, you will need a stitch on cervix. So, treatment depends on cause. If bleeding stops with normal ultrasound, nothing to be done.

You can sleep in a position you feel comfortable at this time.

Thank you for the answer doctor, but my doctor hasn't told me whether I have open os or not..she just did ultrasound and told me baby's heartbeat is fine.Today I had bleeding again and called her she told to continue taking tablets twice a day for a week till bleeding stops and come for ultrasound when I complete 3 months.I will complete 3 months on Oct 5th. Should I go for an ultrasound just to check? Is it safe to get ultrasounds often!?
    • Hello Dear,

If bleeding through vagina continues, there may be a collection around placental plane ( Subchorionic hemorrhage) and it may continue to drain time to time till it resolves.
Spotting due to some other causes may also continue but if it is heavy or has pieces along with, get ultrasound done. Otherwise you can repeat your ultrasound after a week to follow up the status. Treatment till then remains the same.

I lost our baby on 19th of September. They didn't hear any heartbeat and doctor gave me medicines to abort the fetus. I wanted to ask you two questions:
    1. Doctor said that my baby might have had chromosomal abnormalities and that's why it did not survive. I want to know for future pregnancies, how tofind out about chromosomal abnormalities. Are there any tests?
    2. How much time do I have to wait before trying again for pregnancy.
    • Hello Dear,

Thank you for writing to us at MediMetry.

Very sorry for your loss, but do not lose hope. Please find answers to your queries:
      1. To check for chromosomal abnormalities, karyotype other the fetus can be done and if missed both parents can be advised to go for it.
Usually we do not advise this costly investigation unless abortions are recurrent, past or family history is pointing towards this.
      2. Wait for 6 months. Improve your nutrition, healthy lifestyle and take tab folic acid 5mg one daily from 1 month preconception.

    • Hello Dear,

There is no contraindication to have sex once you are feeling fine and active bleeding has stopped.
