  1. Hello Dear,

Thank you for writing to us at MediMetry.
If bright red spotting reappears after your lochia has already lightened, check immediately with your doctor.
Call your doctor if your bleeding is getting heavier or:
    - Your lochia is still bright red four days after your baby's birth.
    - Your lochia has a foul smell or you come down with fever or chills, which can be a sign of a postpartum infection.
    - You have abnormally heavy bleeding (saturating a sanitary pad in an hour or having blood clots bigger than a golf ball). This is a sign of a late postpartum hemorrhage and requires immediate attention.

  2. Hello Dear,

The discharge from vagina after delivery is known as lochia. For initial 4 to 7 days it's red then yellow and then white and lasts upto 21 days or so. Sometimes it can be there for more days also.
If in doubt due to red blood discharge it's better to get a check up done to look for any local cause or trauma.
If it's excessive, better to get an ultrasound done to confirm any retained placental bits or collection or infection.
