    The pleural lining is a membrane that covers the lungs and produces fluid that helps the lungs move without any friction, when we breathe. Sometimes due to several factors like injury, cancer, infections, non specific causes, etc. a fluid build up tends to occur which presses on the lungs, causing breathlessness.
    To diagnose pleural effusion, a chest x-ray or ultrasound scan and other tests maybe required.
    To treat a pleural effusion, the fluid has to be slowly drained which is usually done by putting a tube into the chest through a small cut.
