Is pacifier is good for baby or not?

My baby is 2.5 months old. He is a happy baby with adequate weight gain.

He is exclusively breastfed.Whenever he is sleepy he wants to breastfeed for

comfort in spite of full. Can I give him a pacifier that point of a time?

  1. Hello Dear,

Thank you for writing to us at MediMetry.
Offering pacifier is a personal choice. It is for you to understand the pros and cons and take decision appropriately.
    - Soothes cranky and fussy baby
    - Offers temporary distraction
    - Helps baby in sleeping
    - Good for easing discomforts during flight
    - Reduce the risk of sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS)
    - Disposable as compared to finger or thumb

    - Early pacifier use might interfere with breast-feeding
    - Dependence on pacifier
    - Might increase the risk of middle ear infections
    - Might lead to dental problems

You should wait if baby is still not used to breastfeed. Prefer comforting your baby rather than giving a pacifier when baby is crying. Do not sugarcoat it. Keep it clean. Keep it safe and out of range of any unwanted particles.
