Is it mandatory to go for nuchal translucency scan and double marker test.

I am 29 years old and am 8 weeks pregnant. Doctor has suggested to go for nuchal translucency

scan and double marker test. Are these mandatory to undergo? Other blood test and urine test

reports are normal. I have already done with initial scan during 6 weeks to check fetus position.

Everything is normal or not?

Is it mandatory to go for nuchal translucency scan and double marker test.

  1. Hello Dear,

Thank you for writing to us at MediMetry.

It's recommended to go for NT scan from 11 week to 13 week 6 days even double marker test can be done at this time. These are recommended tests for better surveillance of pregnancy to rule out certain diseases like down syndrome or other trisomies or neural tube defects. In case they are abnormal further test is amniocentesis.
As cost factor increases with this, some clients do not opt to go for this. Next step then is to go for surveillance by triple or better is quadruple test with level 2 scan around 16 to 20 weeks. In case tests are skipped or abnormal, we go for ultrasound with fetal echo around 24 weeks. Discuss with your gynecologist and decide accordingly.

Hope this answers your query. Feel free to write back to us with follow-up questions.
