7 weeks baby boy, troubled with acid reflux. What can I do?

My baby boy is around 7 weeks now.He has been diagnosed with acid reflux by the doctor. Though he does not show all classic symptoms like yellow or green spit up,projectile vomiting or problem with weight gain. His current weight is 3.4 kgs. He shows symptoms like arching his back while feeding and burping,spit up and restless sleep due to acid which I can see coming back to his mouth. His doctor has prescribed him with Rantac syrup 4 drops thrice and Motinorm drops 4 drops twice.
Now the problem is whenever I am giving him the medicines he starts crying for the whole day, staying awake for more than 12 hours with continuous irritation. My question is can he do without the medicine? Is there any chance of permanent damage of his food pipe due to reflux sans the medicine. I am trying all the natural remedies like feeding him in upright position,keeping him upright after feeding and frequent burping. But the little one starts crying whenever I try to burp him on my shoulder. How long this will go on?

    Your child is not having the normal reflux which usually seen in many babies. Your child most likely suffering from severe form of reflux called as GERD (Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease). Medication, which has been prescribed to your child, is for that purpose only. But as you are suggesting that there is no improvement with the treatment, and weight is also low so you need to consult paediatric gastroenterologist for further evaluation and management.
    Usually reflux symptoms settles by the age of 18 months but as your child is suffering form severe disease, it depends how he responds to the therapy.

    I would like to correct my baby's weight in my question, and it is 4.52kgs at 7 weeks. I would like to know if this information changes your response.

      Hello Dear,

      If weight is 4.5 kg then your baby's growth is normal. But other symptoms are severe so it still falls in the GERD classification and needs proper evaluation and treatment. Please consult pediatric gastroenterologist.
