Increased vaginal discharge during pregnancy.

Hi Doctor, I am 16 weeks pregnant. I am having increased vaginal discharge during pregnancy. It is watery with no smell. It usually happens when I walk or exert myself. Sometimes it is accompanied with cream coloured discharge. Is it a reason to worry. Thanks.

  1. Increased vaginal discharge during pregnancy is due to increased production of estrogen, which increases blood flow to the pelvic area and stimulates the body's mucous membranes during pregnancy. Leucorrhea is similar to the physiological vaginal discharge you experience between periods. Its presence is normal throughout your entire pregnancy. It protects the birth canal from infection and maintains a healthy balance of bacteria in the vagina. It is not harmful for pregnancy.
Wear pads to absorb the discharge. Keeping clean and dry down there, can help prevent some of the unpleasant odors. Avoid douches as it can upset the natural chemistry in your vagina and can lead to vaginal infections during pregnancy.
