Having thyroid in pregnancy. Will i conceive again?

I’m 30 years old now. I am taking thyronorm and was told to take high power from 75 mg to 100 mg. I’m also suffered from optic neuritis 10 years before. My ophthalmologist diagnosed it as viral infection and nothing related to MS. I am now 11 weeks and 2 days pregnant. Had spotting at 9 weeks 4 days. I had internal scan and they found a blood clot outside the baby sac. I was told nothing to worry with 2.54 mm thick nuchal fluid. My doc told me that thyroid in pregnancy could be bad and it may have to be terminated. My morale is down, as i want this baby. Will i conceive again? Will my pregnancy be normal?

  1. Hello Dear,

Thank you for writing to us at MediMetry.

Well as far as your pregnancy is concerned, you should continue your thyroxine in a dose so that your TSH remains less than 2.5. Spotting as you had and Ultrasound shows a clot you need to take bed rest and follow abstinence till it resolves.
As far as nuchal thickness is concerned, it is measured from 11 weeks to 13 week 6 days and should be less than 3.5. If you are more than 35 yrs old or have a family history of anomalies in baby, chances of being at high risk for down syndrome are there. Still 90% of the times, NT Of 2.5 to 3.5 is normal.
If any doubt, scan finding should be combined with your blood test to calculate the risk.
If high risk, it should be confirmed by amniocentesis or chorionic villus sampling according to the gestation age.

Hope this answers your query. Feel free to write back to us with follow-up questions.
