Having severe acidity and heartburn during third trimester.

Hello doctor, I am 32 weeks pregnant now, having severe acidity and heartburn. Can’t just tolerate, and taking rantac. Sometimes gelusil if the symptom is severe and sometimes also take pantocid. Is it safe to take? Which one is ideal? Rantac, gelusil or pantocid? Can I stop it on tablet to avoid heartburn?

  1. Acid reflux is when the acidic contents of the stomach travels upwards to the back of the throat. This is more likely when one is lying down flat. As fetus grows during the second and third trimesters and the uterus expands to accommodate that growth, the stomach is under more pressure. Irregular meals timing, Stress, Spicy food, pickle, papad,Alcohol/ tea /Coffee cause excessive acid production. Consumption of above mentioned items should be avoided. Take fresh juice and avoid packed juices which contain Preservatives. Eat Breakfast/Lunch/ Dinner at regular time. Tension produce more acid in stomach. Take cold milk. Make reclining bed (head end of bed raised to 30 degree by placing blanket). Sleep on your left side. Acid will not regurgitate to your food pipe. Eat smaller meals more frequently and avoid drinking while eating. Drink water in between meals instead/Eat slowly and chew every bite thoroughly/Avoid eating a few hours before bed.Avoid those foods and beverages that trigger your heartburn. Typical culprits include: chocolate, fatty foods, spicy foods, acidic foods like citrus fruits and tomato-based items, carbonated beverages, and caffeine. Continue Rantac and Gelucil.
