Diet during pregnancy

I am 6 weeks pregnant with my second pregnancy at the age of 38. I’m overweight with 85kg and 160cm height. I want my diet to be designed in a way that my baby should grow but my body weight should not increase. Please help me out.

  1. Hello Aarzu. Welcome to Medimetry. Include a nutrient dense diet in your routine rather than an energy dense diet. Let your meals be rich in proteins like egg, milk, curd, pulses, sprouts and soya. Make sure all these sources are included in your daily meals with atleast 2 servings each. Secondly, let your major meals be rich in vegetables especially raw veggies which will keep you full. Fruits just 1 a day will be sufficient. Cut down completely on refined sugars, refined flour and its products, meat, high fat chicken preparations, bakery foods, ghee, butter, cheese, deep fried foods. Go for a walk of 30-45 mins as per your pace. It can be intermittently done if not at 1 stretch. Do breathing exercises and meditation.
  2. Avoid eating outside food completely. Hope you find this helpful. Add deffated soya flour to your regular wheat flour or other whole grain flour on daily basis so that you don't miss out eating soya. Drink plenty of plain water in between the meals.     Doctor will you please give sample diet for a day. Rest i will manage. Can i include nuts and dates?
  5. Yes sure. Begin your day with 1-2 glasses of water. Eat a fruit and 2-3 almonds. After 1/2 an hour, go for a 15-20 mins walk. After an hour of walk, eat your breakfast with a serving of wholegrain like chapati/daliya upma/oats upit+ 1 cup milk ( no sugar) + 1 boiled egg. Lunch - 2 chapatis with a cupboard of vegetable, 1 cup salad, 1/2 cup brown rice or parboiled rice (optional)+ 1 cup dal/ sprouts + 1 glass buttermilk or 1 cup curd. Eve - 1 cup skimmed milk, no Sugar+ 2-3 walnuts or soaked almonds+ 1 cup dry roasted chana/ murmure ( puffed rice)/ 1 chapati/ 1 multigrain roti with green chutney. Dinner- same as lunch, avoid curd.
