Baby born at late preterm, will it affect baby?

Hi Doctor, My baby is born at 34 weeks and 5 days, birth weight 2.1 kg.

He is late preterm so I am worried. What other development happens inside mother’s womb?

What other effects will be there if the baby is born at 34 weeks and 5 days?

Will low birth weight a long-term concern and in which month is he born,

Will low birth weight a long-term concern and in which month is he born, is it 9th or 8th month?

  1. Hello Dear,

Thank you for writing to us at MediMetry.

It's preterm but you have delivered in a safe period. Main issue at this time is to attain lung maturity and gain weight in womb. Steroids are given to mother before delivery for lung maturity and if required after birth surfactants. Sepsis should be prevented as per pediatrician advice. Weight gain should be proper after birth and usually catches up well gradually. This is 8 month completed.

Thanks a lot for your response Mam. As you said I have completed 8 months that means I have entered to 9 months..request you let me know how many days I have crossed in 9 months. My baby is born at 34 week 6 days & doct has given me steroid in 32 week.Is there any side effect of steroid.
    • Hello Dear,

Thank you for writing to us at MediMetry.
Benefit of giving steroids for lung maturity in more than prescribed quantity could be harmful. As such it is safe unless you are diabetic or hypertensive. 34 weeks 5 days means 8 months complete and you begin 9th month.
