    Normal fetal heart rate during pregnancy ranges from 120 to 160 beats per min and may be extended from 110 to 180 bpm.
    In early pregnancy heart rate is usually higher and settles to average 140 bpm at term. Slight variation in rate may happen from time to time and in different situations like baby in uterus is stimulated by sound or activity, maternal fever, exercise or dehydration or under effect of drugs etc. Heart rate of 170 bpm is borderline tachycardia and may be due to above causes or otherwise is normal only unless heart rate is high and irregular. You can recheck it in your next scan and if in doubt fetal echo can be performed around 24 weeks.
