29 weeks pregnant fetal lateral ventricle is 8.9 mm dilated.

Hi doctor, I am 29 weeks pregnant. According to ultrasound report fetal lateral ventricle is 8.9 mm dilated at the region of atrium. My doctor said not to worry much it is within the limits. But on the other hand she also said that its not too common and appears rarely. What is this and how it will affect my baby? Will it have any trouble after birth to my baby or to me. Please suggest.

  1. Hello Dear,

Thank you for writing to us at MediMetry.
If fetal ventricular diameter is more than 10 mm, it is called ventriculomegaly. If it's an isolated finding that too around 10mm, even then chances of it being normal are more than 90%.
As far as your scan is concerned, your gynecologist is right and it's normal. To confirm and for follow up you can repeat your ultrasound after 4 weeks or so.

Hope this answers your query. Feel free to write back to us with follow-up questions.
