26 week pregnant, hemoglobin reduced during pregnancy, is it normal?

Hi, I am 26 week pregnant. At the starting of pregnancy my hemoglobin was 15 however now in the 26 week it is left on 13. I want to ask does it normally decrease in pregnancy and also will it recover after pregnancy. I am also having iron tablet on daily basis.

  1. Hello Dear,

Thank you for writing to us at MediMetry.
It's normal for your hemoglobin levels to change during pregnancy. If you start off pregnancy with a good level of iron stores, your hemoglobin level is likely to rise at first and then gradually drop to about half of your pre-pregnancy level at the end of 2nd trimester or within the first month of your third trimester. That's because there's far more fluid in your blood to dilute your red blood cells at this stage and the iron in your system is being moved and used rapidly.
