What to expect in twin pregnancy?

What to expect in twin pregnancy?

Are you expecting Twins? Wow, this is wonderful news!

Congratulations, you are now enrolled for a journey with two times the fun!

If you are pregnant with twins and don’t know what to expect, it’s normal!  A twin pregnancy though very exciting, can also carry greater risks than single one.You may suffer more than some of the usual symptoms of pregnancy. Do not worry but ensure to observe additional care.

Here are some twin pregnancy facts to help you steer through twin pregnancy:

  1. Morning sickness (nausea and vomiting) is expected to be worse with twin pregnancies, owing to the high level of hCG hormones in your body.
  2. Spotting may be more frequent.
  3. You will be expected to eat more; consuming atleast 2700 calories per day along with additional vitamins and minerals.
  4. You are likely to experience indigestion, constipation, heartburn, etc. in higher intensity than one pregnancy.
  5. You are likely to gain more weight than mums who are expecting one fetus. Later, you will experience more strain on your muscles because you are carrying additional weight, so back pain will be a regular problem.
  6. Women pregnant with twins need more folic acid to help withstand birth defects.
  7. You’ll be offered extra scans and antenatal appointments, to ensure there are no complications.
  8. You’ll need plenty of rest, as you will be tired while carrying two babies, however bed rest is not recommended. You should maintain active schedule with appropriate resting times.
  9. Pre-eclampsia, gestational diabetes, and anemia are more common and your doctor will keep a watch on any irregular symptoms indicating complications.
  10. When you are carrying twins, you should be mentally prepared for c-section delivery; though there have been cases of normal delivery even with multiple pregnancies. But it doesn’t harm to be mentally and physically prepared.

Enjoy the pregnancy ride with twins by your side!
