Not sure whether Vaginal Birth or C-Section?

Not sure whether Vaginal Birth or C-Section?

Due date is approaching and still deciding which is better, Vaginal birth or Cesarean?

Let’s have a basic comparison of the two but being a mother, it’s you who has to choose how you would like to deliver; it could be either natural vaginal birth or C-section. Generally, vaginal delivery is considered as the natural and basic way, but on the other hand more women are opting for Cesarean Sections these days. As per reports on trends, up to 30% of all deliveries are through C-sections.

Before making a decision it is important to understand the risks and advantages of both procedures. Here are some pros and cons to help you:

Vaginal Delivery

Pros

For YOU:

  • Psychologically, you will feel empowered; as you will be actively involved in the course.
  • You will have a shorter hospital stay and recovery time.
  • You can begin breastfeeding sooner after delivery.

For your Baby:

  • Here babies are likely to have less allergies and respiratory problems.
  • They will get breast feed earlier.

Cons

For YOU:

No one is sure how long it will take which could be very stressful for you. Sometimes the long time span can lead to some complications.

For your Baby:

In rare cases, baby may have an injury or brain hemorrhage while delivery.

C-Section

Pros

For YOU:

  • Mother can avoid long hours of labor.
  • You can plan for the birth accordingly.
  • C-sections do not rupture the pelvic floor which may lead to incontinence over the years.

For your Baby:

  • Safe for large babies or if it is a case of twins or more.
  • C-section will reduce the possibilities of transferring infections (like HIV) from mother to the baby.

Cons

For YOU:

  • You will need extra care post-pregnancy and will usually have a longer recovery time when compared with normal delivery.
  • C-section can delay in breastfeed as you will not be able to have immediate contact with baby.
  • Once a C-section means a high probability of C-section during next pregnancy also

For your Baby:

  • Some babies might face medical issues.
