Every pregnant woman would be concerned about gaining weight during pregnancy. Every woman who successfully advances to the last trimester and until her delivery will have to go through this stage of weight gain during pregnancy. Nine months is a long time and shedding that extra fab will also take few months to get you back into the normal body shape. Throughout your weight shedding, you will have to focus on balanced diet, postpartum exercises, and your daily routine and at the same time you should not forget that you have to breastfeed your baby also regularly.

One major thing to notice is that gaining weight during pregnancy is not only because of the baby’s weight. It is also because of the extra healthy diet that you are taking and some amniotic fluid inside the womb.

Those women who gain less weight during pregnancy would mean that their baby will have a low birth weight.

Women gaining excessive weight would mean that their baby will either be little larger in size or such woman may give birth to premature baby. Such women are otherwise healthy. There may also be the case when a woman may have some genetic disorder, are diabetic and have regular high blood pressure and may lead to further complications during pregnancy or during last minute delivery.

The ideal weight gain during pregnancy during the last 9th month is going to be 12.5 Kilograms more than your original weight before your pregnancy.

Gaining weight during pregnancy will be divided as below:

3.3 kg will be your baby’s weight
0.7 kg will be the placenta’s weight that provides nourishment to your unborn baby
0.9 Kg is what your uterus weighs now by 9th month
0.8 kg will be the weight of amniotic fluid
1.2 kg will be the weight of extra fluid inside your body
1.2 kg weight will be due to increase in the blood volume inside your body
0.4 kg will be the weight increase of your breasts preparing for lactation period

Normal weight gain range should be from 18.5 kg to 24.9 kgs.

Gaining weight during pregnancy on trimester basis:

First trimester: 0.4 kg to 2 kg (1 to 4.5 pounds)
Second trimester: 0.4 kg to 0.9 kg (1 to 2 pounds per week)
Third trimester: 0.4 kg to 0.9 kg (1 to 2 pounds per week)

To control weight gain during pregnancy, you must follow a pregnancy diet chart that includes healthy meals.

Make sure your meals are in small quantities and taken at shorter intervals and not just like 3 big meals a day. Have plenty of fluids and water intake and practice deep breaths. You also need to follow some exercise schedule.

Don’t forget to follow the advice of your nutritionist.
