Medication during Pregnancy

Medication during Pregnancy

Pregnancy is a critical time for you and your baby. There are illnesses which you cannot avoid such as going under the weather or feeling nausea. It is recommended to consult a doctor before taking any over the counter mediations during pregnancy.

Though no medications are considered 100% safe for consumption in pregnancy, but following is a list of medicines which are considered safe and also prescribed by doctors:

–          For cold and flu, you can take Tylenol

–          For allergy, take Benadryl

–          For rashes, Benadryl cream or Hydrocortisone ointment

–          For first aid use Neosporin

Since everybody’s pregnancy is different, it is better to consult the doctor before taking above listed medications too!

It is recommended you try home remedies rather than take over the counter medications without consultation during pregnancy.  But even in the case of home remedies, consult your doctor and confirm it is fine to consume the ingredients used in home remedy. For eg. A pregnant lady should avoid papaya, too much of ginger or jaggery.

You should try alternative and safer solutions for common problems such as Backache. Try hot water baths, acupuncture, acupressure, or chiropractic treatment for getting relief from backache. Gradually it becomes difficult to stay in the same pose and even lying down becomes uncomfortable. Getting a good body massage ensures blood flow to all parts of the body. It also relieves and relaxes your body.

Consult your doctor before consuming any medication during pregnancy to keep yourself and your baby safe. Happy Pregnancy!
