Infant Trouble – Colic Pain

Infant Trouble – Colic Pain

Colic is a condition of continuous crying in infants and is usually observed because of abdominal pain. Though it is a very common condition and has been observed in 20% of infants during the early months.

Common Symptoms

Crying is usually continuous, loud and could last from 1 to 4 hours. The baby’s face often gets red as a result of crying. The belly is sometimes swollen or prominent; the feet are repeatedly cold and the hands clenched.

Causes of Colic Pain

– Tummy trouble, possibly a problem with the cow’s milk or lactose in some formula

– Acid reflux, a developing nervous system or growing digestive system with muscles that often leads to painful spasms

– Gas or hormones that cause stomachaches, a moody newborn baby

Based on your baby’s needs, try some calming methods-

If you’re breastfeeding, avoid foods (such as caffeine, certain vegetables). If your baby is spitting up, keep him or her straight after feeding. Take your baby for a ride. Try body massage. Put a warm water bottle on your baby’s belly. Use anti-reflux medicines and anti-gas drops.Try giving “gripe water” to your baby.
