1. Become active and include regular exercise in your routine

 3. Avoid extra salt wherever possible

High amount of salt i.e.sodium intake leads to high blood pressure which gradually leads to heart problems. You should avoid additional intake of salt, and rather the amount of salt used in cooking should also be reduced gradually.

 4. Watch what you eat

You should eat fibrous and healthy diet to keep the heart safe. The food items containing saturated fat, trans fat, and high cholesterol should be avoided. Daily diet should be rich in variety of fruits, all types of vegetables, and whole grains.

 5. Eat Fish twice a week

Eating fish has been recommended by doctors as it helps in strengthening the heart. You can eat fish twice a week. It should not be just any fish, you should go for fatty fish such as mackerel, salmon, sardines, fresh tuna as these contain high contents of omega-3 fats.

6. Avoid Alcohol

Alcohol should be avoided as alcohol leads racing up of heartbeat and numbs down the ability to react or respond.Though doctors suggest that a healthy man can have two drinks a day while a woman can have one drink a day; but if it can be reduced further, it will be good for your heart only.

7. Stop Smoking

Tobacco is harmful for heart and blood vessels. One should stop smoking or using tobacco in any form to lead a healthy-heart life. Even passive smoking or nicotine-free smoking has been found to be injurious for the heart.

8. Regularly monitor your vitals

If you have a family history of heart problems, or diabetes or blood pressure, then you should keep monitoring your vitals from time to time. This would help in noticing any changes or indications by the body well in advance to take some preventive or corrective actions.

 9. Sleep well
